Daylong Saturday Poetry Expansion Labs
A more high-paced, poetry packed experience. Jack Collom always leads our Saturday expansion labs. We typically begin with pass-around poetry and collaborative efforts occur throughout the day. Snacks are available. Word By Word Journeys instructors, Virginia, Kathryn, and Emily, lead the afternoon writing. Lunch is on your own. There is plenty of time to write during lunch, if you desire, and we provide suggested topics or forms. After lunch, our extended time together allows for Writer's Workshop, revision and refinement. The day concludes as we gather with Jack to hear "Tips for Reading Poetry Aloud" and share our work.

Weekday Poetry CirclesWe hold circles for an hour and a half and complete an average of two writing exercises. These are usually smaller, more intimate groups than the all day expansion labs. Bringing a piece of writing to the session is encouraged. Pass-around poetry is a frequently used method of writing, especially to warm-up the poetic senses. Sharing our poetry together is always a pleasure.
Poetry circles are held from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. These are community gatherings, yet can also be used to acquire teacher credit through BVSD or continuing education credit through the University of Colorado at Boulder. |
